I recently read Texas lawmaker seeks to reverse Planned Parenthood ban By Mary Tuma from the Texas Independent.
Conservative Republican Texas Governor, Rick Perry and other state leaders have banned funding for Planned Parenthood for Women's Healthcare Programs because Planned Parenthood also affiliates with abortion providers. In 2011 Republican Legislators had cut the funding by 2/3rds. In effect to these budget cuts, multiple health clinics have been closed down. Women with Medicaid or low-income have to now search for others sources of healthcare. As a consequence, not only is the access to birth control being taken away but it's also STD testing, cervical-cancer and breast-cancer screenings and testing for diabetes. An amendment was also passed by lawmakers in 2011 that warrants the funding for Women's Healthcare Program (WHP) can't:
“perform or promote elective abortions, or to contract with entities that perform or promote elective abortions or affiliate with entities that perform or promote elective abortions.” House Democratic Representative, Lon Burnam said: “Texas is willing to leave millions in federal tax dollars on the table and deny health care for thousands of women just because the governor has an opposition to a specific nonprofit organization,”
Regardless of the person's ideology, I found this article worth reading because it doesn't only concern low income women it might be relatable for everyone. Not all jobs provide healthcare. Reproductive healthcare is very expensive.
